The power of the Connected World. True Story.
This morning, I retweeted @Saliltripathi ‘s tweet regarding an Ad done by JWT for Vodafone Egypt. It read:
Doh! “@saliltripathi: The Good, The Ad & The Ugly- commentary on the weird ad for Vodafone about Egypt & human rights: http://bit.ly/mh3TBa”
I followed that up with a detailed note via @fastcompany which went thus:
WTF! A @VodafoneEgypt Ad by JWT gives credit to Vodafone for the Egyptian Revolution. http://bit.ly/l2mpvd .. Cc: @saliltripathi
Then the Trolls hit me:
hateVodafoneEG @sushobhan @additiyom @saliltripathi How pathetic is VodafoneEgypt ..
A few hours later, @VodafoneEgypt wrote to me:
@additiyom Hi, please find our statement in regards to this http://bit.ly/m5rjES cc: @saliltripathi ^AM
In the interest of being fair to both parties, I retweeted Vodafone Egypt’s statement as well.
All in a day’s work, as they say. Brands who are socially savvy are keeping an ear on the ‘virtual ground’ as it were and realise that it is important to respond & respond fast.
Also what is important is the tone & manner with which they respond. The offending video is attached, source Fast Company.
It was quite a task to put this under one of the defined heads as given out by Tumblr. This is an example of how interactive one’s internet activity could be & gives a dimension to what I keep touting ‘Engagement’.

We have to wonder where this one’s going. After all, Twitter is already filled with all kinds of mundane things people insist upon tweeting. Now we have to be notified every time someone decides to take a drink of water?
OK, so it’s really not that bad and it’s all for a good cause.
In Brazil, people don’t drink enough water so bottled water company Bonafont created the Tweeting Fridge, a miniature refrigerator sent to one of the country’s top celebrities that would post a tweet to the celebrity’s timeline every time the celebrity opened the fridge and took a drink of water.
Bonafont has plans to send more of these mini refrigerators to other celebrities to keep the message going.
